DIY: How to Create a Temporary Party Backdrop

The vision I had for my Little Monsters party required four frames to be hung above the dessert table. I wanted each monster's personality to shine through a color coordinated yarn frame. Here is how I created a temporary party backdrop without damaging my walls.

Meet my secret weapon, Command. The 5 lbs command hooks were perfect for my frames. The directions said to press the hook to the wall for 30 seconds, then wait 1 hours before hanging anything from it. The hook will form a tight bond until you release it from the wall.
The frames were hung from long pieces of blue ribbon so that the hooks would not be visible in the photographs.

Little Monsters Party: DIY With YARN

TA-DA!!!!  Here is my Little Monsters Dessert Table featured in Bird's Party Magazine!

It's been hard to keep this project quiet. I have been SO excited to share it with you. This week, I will be sharing more photos, insider party tips, and introducing you to my fabulous party vendors.

DIY TIP #1: YARN !!!!

Yarn is an inexpensive craft supply that comes in all sorts of colors and textures. It is also a great alternative to paint. I bought old frames in various sizes from a thrift store and removed the backing and glass. The rest was easy, it just requires A LOT of wrapping of yarn around the frame.

I added YARN accents throughout the dessert table...on the soda bottles

On the cake stand boxes

I even wrapped an entire box in brown yarn

Vocal Point and Tailgate Parties

Have you heard of Vocal Point? It's one of my new favorite sites for women to share new products, tips, surveys, and coupons. They have invited me to host a Chiquita® Avocados RSVParty. I  get to try out a few delicious dishes using Chiquita® Avocados AND throw a tailgate party, um yes!

Speaking of Tailgate Parties... have you seen the Tailgate 2011 Throwdown? A challenge has been thrown down by the Florida Gator girls to create a spirited, fun, and CUTE tailgate party.

There are some seriously great prizes for the winner. I have my eye on this ribbon wreath by She's {kinda} Crafty... only replace that orange with blue and white

Anyone have a good avocado recipe?

{Twine Pom} Cupcake Toppers

Here's what I am sharing over at Whisker Graphics today.
I have a thing for poms... fabric, yarn, felt, tissue paper.
I like them in all forms.
So why not try baker's twine
Better yet, let's add cupcakes.

Here's what you will need:
  • Cherry Divine Twine
  • Fork
  • Scissors
  • Lolly pop sticks
  • Hot Glue

Wrap twine around fork until desired thickness (mine was about 50 wraps). For a bigger pom, use a spatula.

Slide off fork and tie a knot tight in the middle

Cut loops, fluff, and give pom a haircut to even out pieces.

Tie or hot glue pom to lolly pop stick and re-fluff.

Add to cupcake and enjoy!
